Team Oasis Wins The Childrens Charity Award
Team Oasis was established in 2003 with the aim of offering inclusive opportunities for children and young people of all abilities and circumstances to engage together in a variety of activities and projects. We believe that promoting activities that engage disadvantaged children/youngsters in exciting, adventurous activities with children/youngsters that might have a particular disability bares much universal fruit. Friendships blossom, mutual respect abounds and of course we like to think that we have a major impact on diverting young people away from the prevalent negative influences that can make it so difficult for young people these days.
From early numbers attending of just eight children, Team Oasis now has approximately seven hundred children attending each week and we are delighted to be deliveingr totally inclusive activities for fifty weeks each year.
This summer is no exception with a full summer of activities each day. In addition we begin hosting a group of American Students on Monday 19th July for one week. We finish our sizzling summer of activities for a full arts summer camp with dance, music and theatre group.
Also we have a 9 person tent fully kitted out with all utilities and utensils on a Camp Site in North Wales. We obviously use this tent to deliver activities etc but we also offer it totally free of Charge to local families to ensure that their children have at least one opportunity to visit the countryside and enjoy a great holiday away from the inner city.
However, none of our good work actually prepared us the news that we recieved on Thursday at a Special Awards Event arranged by Liverpool Unites and Sponsored by Trinity Newspaper, Liverpool Echo, Bafour Beaty and The Entwistle Group.
We at Team Oasis were delighted, thrilled, humbled and flabbergasted that we have just been awarded the Liverpool Unites Children's Charity for Liverpool Award 2010. Being voted for by thousands of Liverpool families means so much to us and in all honesty it was an amazing surprise.
I personally am so pleased for all of the hard work that our Team have put in over the past seven years, often, as now, through extremely challenging times. They so deserve this recognition. Furthermore without your support we might never have made it so far and achieved so much. So thank you all. This award belongs to you, for supporting us, our volunteers for their dedication, the parents and guardians of the hundreds of local children that we serve and most of all to the children for their manner and respect agenda for each other.
Congratulations to you all, a big thank you to Liverpool Unites For Arranging This Award Event and immense gratitude to the people of Liverpool for voting Team Oasis as your Children's Charity 2010.
Paul Nilson Coordinator Team Oasis
ps: can I say a special thank you to Willie Miller for his immense, passsionate and articulate hosting of the event and Roy Gronow of The Entwistle Group for their generous sponsorship of this award.
